Young Man Arrested for Possessing Illegal Anime Images on His Smartphone

A news story that has been going viral on social media and reported by European news outlets says that a young man was arrested in Ireland for having Brown Dust 2 on his phone, a game that features loli characters.
Shall we take a look at the case? The young man, identified as Finley Bowd, was stopped at Terminal 2 of Dublin Airport during a routine inspection. He was on his way to a flight to the United States when Homeland Security agents found suspicious files on his phone.
According to information presented in court, Bowd was accused of storing anime images classified as child exploitation material, something prohibited under local law.

At the hearing held at Dublin District Court, Detective Rebecca Doyle stated that the accused did not respond when charged. Initially, the prosecution tried to deny bail, since he is a UK citizen and considered a flight risk.
However, after negotiations with the defense, bail was set at €400. The judge also ruled that Bowd must provide a new phone number and remain contactable, temporarily through his mother’s phone.
The defense lawyer reported that the defendant cooperated with authorities and had no prior criminal record in the UK. The case was described as involving “difficult charges,” and the request for free legal aid was approved.
The process is ongoing, and Bowd is expected to appear in court again on November 6, when the next steps will be determined by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

That said, according to what has been circulating on social media, the apparent reason for his arrest was the game Brown Dust II, since it contains almost explicit scenes and features loli characters.
Most people are outraged at the alleged reason for the arrest, with comments such as:
“How did they know? Did they see him playing?”
“Why is something that doesn’t exist illegal?”
“It’s just a drawing, stop this madness.”
“Meanwhile, real pedos walk free.”
“Arrested because of laws approved by people who are probably on Epstein’s list.”
Many details of the case remain unclear, such as whether this is truly what happened, how his phone was checked, and if the actual reason was indeed Brown Dust II, among many other questions.
