Bandai Namco has officially announced Tales of Xillia Remastered, but the announcement did not please everyone. Many fans of the Tales franchise in Japan expressed frustration over how the title was revealed and the current direction of the series.

The Announcement of Tales of Xillia Remastered

On August 19, Bandai Namco revealed that Tales of Xillia Remastered will be released on October 31, 2025, for PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. The game will feature enhanced graphics and quality-of-life improvements, bringing back the 13th main title of the franchise, originally released in 2011 as a PS3 exclusive.

This will be the third game in the “Tales of Series 30th Anniversary Remastered Project,” which previously brought back Tales of Vesperia (2019) and Tales of Graces f (2025).

Criticism from Japanese Fans

Despite the initial excitement, many Japanese fans criticized the way the announcement was made. According to them, a remaster shouldn’t be treated as a major reveal, but rather announced more discreetly, perhaps alongside new projects.

Another concern is that the release of Tales of Xillia Remastered will coincide with the highly anticipated remake of Dragon Quest I & II, which could completely overshadow the news, especially in the Japanese market.

Fans also complained that Bandai Namco is prioritizing events and merchandise over new games, leaving the franchise “stagnant” in terms of significant releases.

To give an idea, the Tales of Festival always takes place, and fans always expect new game announcements during this event. However, Bandai Namco only announces new merchandise, and Japanese fans are literally getting tired of this and complaining heavily online.

Games Fans Really Want

Another recurring criticism concerns the choice of titles for the Remastered Project. Many believe that games like Tales of Destiny 1 and 2, Rebirth, and Legendia deserved priority, as they have become nearly impossible to play on current consoles.

One fan summed up the community’s sentiment:

“My criticism does not come from hatred, but from despair. This wonderful franchise is weakening! Listen to the fans, do real marketing, and bring games people actually want to play.”

Another comment captured the frustration:

“I’m happy to see a remaster, but this isn’t something that should be announced with so much fanfare. Remasters should be announced alongside a new title, not as if it’s a major novelty.”

Another fan added that they expected something more significant:

“If it were a remake, this kind of promotion would make sense. But for a remaster… it should have been shown at Tales of Festival, not at a separate event.”

The Tales of Festival took place this year, but Tales of Xillia Remastered was not announced there. Bandai Namco prepared the announcement months later, which disappointed fans.

“We want new games, but what we get are events and merchandise. It’s frustrating to see Tales being treated this way,” said another fan.
