The Reason Why Square Enix Has So Many Security Guards at the Entrance is Scary

Since the attack on Kyoto Animation years ago, many companies have taken precautions to protect themselves from potential threats, and Square Enix is one that requires extra security.

It all started with a tweet from a user named Kinopee, who was looking for the headquarters of Anthropic, an AI company. He posted a photo saying: “The Anthropic headquarters should be around here, but there are no signs.”

Another user shared a story about visiting OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, commenting:

“When I visited the OpenAI office, it was the same, but since there was a risk of protests, we basically couldn’t even approach the entrance lol.”

This brings us to the main topic of this post. User Rootport shared his experience visiting Square Enix headquarters, the company behind Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, and more. He said:

“I remember the first time I went to Square Enix headquarters in Higashi Shinjuku. I asked, ‘Isn’t it strange to have so many security guards at the entrance?’ and they smiled and said, ‘Sometimes, a man shows up with a knife’~”

Rootport’s revelation sparked many reactions.

  • Thinking about the Kyoto Animation case, it seems mandatory for production companies to implement security measures like this.
  • In our company, a problematic person appeared every few years…
  • Seriously, who’s to blame for this…
  • Square Enix needs to protect its employees even online. If not, someone could really get hurt one day…
  • Have they moved? Research shows the headquarters still seems to be in Higashi-Shinjuku.
  • It’s really scary! But considering the Kyoto Animation case, it’s understandable why such precautions are necessary.
  • Be especially careful after the release of the final part of the trilogy. I’m not joking—I’m genuinely concerned.

It’s shocking to know that it’s apparently “common” for men to show up with knives at Square Enix headquarters.
