Saiki K Creator Shares Curious Situation at Bookstore

The creator of Saiki K., Shūichi Asō, shared on August 3rd a curious experience he had at a bookstore. The author said he overheard two women, with one of them saying: “Look! Saiki Kusuo no Psi-nan!” while pointing at a poster in the store.
According to Asō, his initial happiness quickly turned into surprise when he realized they weren’t actually looking at his manga, but at a poster for the 40th anniversary Dragon Ball project, which featured variant covers drawn by guest artists.
The Saiki K. creator imagined what the women’s conversation might have been like:
“Who could have drawn the variant cover for volume 37? I know all the others, but I don’t know this one. I’ll look it up on Google.”
As a joke, Asō said he felt like surprising them, jumping into the conversation in true Son Goku style and saying:
“Hey! I’m Asō!”

About Saiki K.
The manga Saiki Kusuo no Psi-nan (The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.) was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from May 2012 to February 2018. The series became so popular that it received an anime adaptation in 2016 and even a live-action film in 2017.
In addition, as Asō himself highlighted, he was the one responsible for drawing the variant cover for volume 37 of the Dragon Ball 40th anniversary collection.
