Ruby on the Cake the Manga Where Witches Love to Eat Middle-Aged Men

I bet you saw this totally suggestive title with an equally suggestive cover image that I used to present the manga Ruby on the Cake and came expecting an ecchi, borderline-hentai anime… but we’re actually talking about cannibalism and gore here.
Yeah… I couldn’t believe it either when I read the synopsis of this manga. Ruby on the Cake began publication last year and is written by Morinaga Miki.
Witches exist in our world, but these witches feed on people—specifically, their favorite dish is middle-aged men. Because of this, there are many cases of men disappearing or being found dead, devoured by these witches who literally cook them. And yes, they don’t like women.

Because of that, an agency called RED was created in London to hunt and kill these witches. Ruby is the newest witch hunter and is considered a prodigy.

The first chapter begins with Ruby investigating a case where a witch attacked a bus, killing all the passengers just to kidnap a man she found appetizing.
Inside the witch’s lair, Ruby sees that the witch was preparing a cake and planned to use the man as the topping. Ruby defeats the witch and saves the man but discovers a secret room with several other kidnapped victims.

Ruby has only a younger sister and a father she loves dearly. Despite the dark tone of witches brutally eating men, the manga shows how much Ruby loves her family and how affectionate she is with her dad and little sister… until tragedy strikes.

There is only one witch in the world known to devour women, and she has an obsession with Ruby. On Christmas, Ruby leaves home for work duties, and when she returns…
Oh, when she returns… her father is dead and her little sister is inside the oven. Ruby’s destiny changes completely from that Christmas night on.

Ruby on the Cake falls under the genres: Action | Drama | Horror | Mystery | Supernatural. So, what do you think? Interesting story and premise?
