One Piece Manga Sales Are Falling

Fans in Japan have been analyzing the sales numbers of One Piece manga in its first days of release and noticed a clear trend in the last 8 volumes: One Piece manga sales are going down.

The latest release, Volume 112, sold 557,960 copies in its first week. While still impressive, when compared to previous volumes, the drop becomes evident.

Check out the first-week sales of the latest volumes (note: the “first week” can vary depending on the release day):

  • Volume 105 – 1,022,180 copies (3 days)
  • Volume 106 – 1,089,661 copies (6 days)
  • Volume 107 – 890,494 copies (4 days)
  • Volume 108 – 994,538 copies (7 days)
  • Volume 109 – 811,541 copies (4 days)
  • Volume 110 – 617,218 copies (3 days)
  • Volume 111 – 745,833 copies (6 days)
  • Volume 112 – 557,960 copies (3 days)

Even considering the differences in counting days, sales have been dropping volume after volume. Comparing only 3-day releases, Volume 112 sold about 60,000 copies fewer than Volume 110, and nearly half of what Volume 105 achieved.

Why Are One Piece Manga Sales Declining?

Fans point out that one of the main reasons is the natural fatigue of following such a long-running story. With more than 110 volumes, One Piece demands constant attention to its plot, unlike short series or episodic works such as Kochikame.

Some fans commented:

  • “I don’t want 112 volumes of the same manga taking space at home.”

  • “I’d already lose interest by Volume 20, imagine following over 100 volumes.”

  • “It’s impressive that a Jump adventure manga reaches 100 volumes and is still not finished.”

  • “The first saga ended at Volume 60, so I thought it would end at 120, but at this pace, there’s no sign of the conclusion.”

  • “The One Piece hype from years ago has simply cooled down.”

  • “With so many breaks and shorter chapters, Volume 105 came out more than 2 years ago. The author seems to have lost passion, and many fans only want to see the ending.”

  • “It’s been 5 years since Oda said he would tie up the loose ends, but nothing has been resolved yet.”

Despite the decline, One Piece manga sales remain extremely high compared to most series, ensuring its position as one of the best-selling manga of all time.
