In 2023, Mangaka Wakana Received Death Threats Over NTR

Recently, we reported a case about a mangaka who faced harsh comments after their NTR manga took an unexpected turn. Here, we bring a story from 2023, when another hentai mangaka canceled their participation in Comiket due to death threats.

Mangaka Wakana Hanabi received death threats in 2023 from a person who said they would stab him if he included NTR in his hentai manga series.

The controversy began when Wakana Hanabi revealed that he had received a threatening message stating that if his character Hiyori had sexual relations with other men, the sender would physically attack him. The artist said that due to these threats, he did not feel safe attending that year’s Comic Market, one of Japan’s largest manga events.

Wakana Hanabi’s most famous series features a protagonist named Hiyori who, in all volumes, is romantically involved with her classmate Daichi, making it a series with an established couple.

The conflict arose because some radical “pure love” fans did not accept seeing Hiyori involved in NTR scenes, preferring that she remained faithful to Daichi.

In a now-deleted tweet, Wakana Hanabi shared the message he received:

Wakana said: “I received a death threat… I probably won’t attend Comic Market.”

The screenshot of the message read: “If you let Hiyori have adult relations with other men, I will stab you, sensei.”

While this situation may seem absurd, it is not uncommon. There is a strong and ongoing feud between fans of pure love and NTR. Many people hate it when an author introduces NTR into a story that starts as pure love, and Wakana Hanabi is not the first author to receive death threats over NTR content.

There have been other cases, for example in 2020, when artist Mosu, known for drawing pure love manga featuring the character Satania from Gabriel DropOut, attempted to publish an NTR manga and received death threats. At the time, Mosu received an email saying “I will kill you,” and Keke, another artist, also reported receiving threats.
