Mangaka Called Out Otaku Who Complained About the Heroine’s Large Chest

When you read a manga, have you ever felt that the author’s personal preferences didn’t match your own? For example… thinking that the heroine’s chest was drawn too large? That’s exactly what caused a small controversy involving Japanese manga artist Ryo Matoba.
The author, who is currently publishing the manga Genkai Dokushin Joshi (26) Gohan, became irritated after a reader commented that the heroine’s chest was “unnecessarily large.” The criticism did not go unnoticed, and Matoba decided to respond publicly on social media.

While promoting the fourth volume of the manga, the artist took the opportunity to vent his frustration. In a provocative tone, he told the reader to “meet him on the rooftop to settle it,” making it clear that he enjoys drawing characters with those proportions. He also revealed that he originally intended to make the chest even larger. Take a look at the heroine from his manga.

However, the author’s response ended up generating a strong wave of support from fans and even other manga artists. Many argued that if he likes drawing characters with large chests, there is nothing wrong with it. Some comments even said the size was perfect, and Matoba agreed.
Another artist commented that such criticism can feel offensive, while Matoba reinforced that the current size was already a reduced version of what he originally envisioned. In another humorous reply, he pointed out that it’s not just the chest that stands out, but also other aspects of the character’s design.
When one user asked if anyone had suggested making it even larger, Matoba replied that such an opinion would simply reflect his own view.
