Meet Mami’s Wife, the French Fan of the Rent-A-Girlfriend Character

I never imagined seeing something like this, but it happened: there is a French woman known online as Hikari (real name Lucie) who loves the character so much that she calls herself the wife of Mami, one of the characters from the Rent-A-Girlfriend manga and anime.

She loves Mami so much that she describes herself as “Mami’s wife” in her Instagram bio, and she has several photos with Mami merchandise (she has been buying Mami goods for at least four years) and at events in Japan featuring the character.

You may not know this, but some time ago we revealed here that Mami is actually the fan-favorite girl among Rent-A-Girlfriend readers!

A screenshot has been circulating showing an Instagram story with what would be the possible date of her wedding with Mami. It features a fanart of both wearing wedding dresses, with the ceremony supposedly set for Saturday, December 13 (even though it says 2026). I checked her profile to find this story, but it was no longer available.

Lucie currently lives in Japan and constantly posts photos of herself with Mami. Her dedication to the character generated the following reactions:

• I’m shocked. Why would you want to marry a character who clearly still loves Kazuya in the manga?
• Did she invite Reiji?
• Someone married Hatsune Miku in real life, so this doesn’t surprise me.
• You’d be surprised how many people do this.
• To each their own.
• This is cute.
• This is mental illness.
• We live in a strange world. But who am I to judge someone I don’t know?

• It’s her life.
• Good for them.
• This reminds me of the guy who’s in a relationship with his car.
• The only thing I wonder is why dedicate so much time to a fake relationship with a fictional character.
• Honestly, I don’t care. The internet is full of people like this, and let’s be real, who actually cares?
• The author set the precedent for this first.
  Interesting, no doubt. It’s her life. She decides what to do with it.
• If she’s happy and no one is being harmed, then we shouldn’t judge.
• These people have mental issues, and because of the internet, this is considered just “weird.” God help us in 10 years.
