Japanese Teacher Fired After Drunken Night Ends With Car in the Sea

Our Strange Japan story today is about a 24-year-old man who worked as a teacher at a school in rural Hokkaido until he was fired after experiencing the wildest night of his life.

It all started when the teacher decided to go to a bar to drink. After finishing there, he decided to go to another bar to drink some more. After that, he went to yet another bar to keep drinking. And then, after leaving the third bar, he headed to a fourth bar to drink even more… enough already, right? The story already starts getting strange when the guy visits four different bars and drinks at all of them.

But the problem is that there was still a fifth bar. From that point on, the bar-hopping ends and the truly crazy part of our story begins. After getting drunk, the teacher decided to steal a car that was parked in a condominium — and just so you get an idea, the key was inside the vehicle, typical small-town stuff.

Perhaps feeling guilty, or simply realizing what he had done, the teacher tried to return the car, but something unbelievable happened: he got lost and ended up at the beach, where he drove the car into the sea, leaving it submerged. He got out of the vehicle and, claiming to be very cold, found another car that was unlocked.

The teacher got into this second car and fell asleep there. When morning came (this whole story took place during the night), the owner of the vehicle woke him up, wanting to know who he was and why he was there. The teacher simply ran away from the scene.

The teacher was then arrested for vehicle theft, but prosecutors decided not to file charges against him. However, the Hokkaido Board of Education decided to fire him. The teacher apologized to the children and their parents for having caused them “great anxiety.”

Given such an unbelievable story, these were some of the reactions to the news:

  • A highly dangerous individual, rarely seen.

  • So out of the ordinary that it’s almost impressive lol.

  • On the contrary, that teacher’s classes must have been really interesting.

  • Wild, right?

  • You can drink, but don’t let the alcohol control you.

  • I think what was given to the children wasn’t anxiety or disappointment, but the deep and bottomless fear of the dark side that adults carry…

  • Are there really that many cars left with the keys inside in rural Hokkaido?
