Japanese Government Urged to Support Anime, Manga and Games Industry

The Japanese government is being urged to provide immediate and strategic support for the anime, manga and games industry as global demand for these cultural products continues to grow rapidly.

According to Keidanren, one of Japan’s largest business federations, the value of content exports now surpasses semiconductor exports, highlighting the economic importance of video games, anime, and manga.

Keidanren’s Committee on the Creative Economy emphasizes that Japan must strengthen its policies to keep these industries competitive internationally. Recommendations include long-term measures such as funding for new game development, support for content localization and global marketing, and stronger anti-piracy strategies, particularly for manga.

The organization stresses that collaboration between the private and public sectors is essential. Without it, Japan risks losing ground to international competitors. They call for a multi-year strategic plan to ensure stability and growth for content creators.

In addition to financial measures, the proposals include support for hiring and training animation staff and improving anime production environments. This aims to maintain Japan’s globally recognized quality standards and increase international competitiveness.

The government has already launched the “New Cool Japan Strategy,” recognizing anime and games as core industries for the country’s cultural economy. However, Keidanren warns that despite global recognition, Japan must intensify its efforts to stay ahead of international competition.

Strengthening these industries not only boosts the economy but also promotes Japanese culture abroad, positioning Japan as a global leader in entertainment and cultural innovation. With robust strategic support, anime, manga, and games can continue to grow as economic drivers, generating jobs and expanding Japan’s global cultural footprint.

In short, the push for government action aims to ensure that Japan maintains cultural relevance while maximizing the economic potential of its anime, manga, and games industry through intellectual property protection and innovation incentives.
