Hentai Artist Manno Shocks Fans After Buying a Ferrari With Manga Sales

Hentai artist Manno surprised everyone once again after revealing on his profile that he bought a Ferrari. This left many Japanese fans shocked, as the car was purchased with money earned from selling his adult manga works.
“I’ve dreamed of owning a Ferrari for a long time. I finally received mine. I’m extremely happy,” he said while showing off his brand-new Ferrari in his stylish garage.

Manno is the creator of the adult manga series Iribitari Gal ni Manko Tsukawasete Morau Hanashi, which currently has six published volumes (including volume 4.5).
The story follows gyaru girls who visit an otaku boy’s apartment just to read manga, but eventually allow him to get very close to them.

The series has already received an anime adaptation as well as a JAV film. Since the author had previously bought expensive cars and has now acquired a Ferrari, fans decided to check the sales numbers of some of his works — and were surprised by the results.
For example, the first volume of Iribitari Gal ni Manko Tsukawasete Morau Hanashi sold 376,445 copies on a single online store. The second volume sold 250,396 copies, and the third volume sold 183,459.
Let’s take a look at some reactions:
“The manga is made to appeal to the general audience, so it feels bland. It’s not bold. But usually, that’s exactly what sells. That’s how the world works.”
“It’s original, so there’s no problem.”
“He’s good at drawing, so it makes sense that he earns this much.”
“You could buy it, sure, but does he really earn that much? Doesn’t it just end with buying a car?”
“Just the first work alone: 370,000 downloads equals about 200 million yen. After raising the price from 2 to 4.5, he sold another 630,000, earning around 500 million more. Even after taxes, he probably kept around 350 million.”
“Why does art that looks average and almost AI-like sell so well? Are people buying this not very smart?”
“While other doujin authors get pirated on sites like Hitomi and make nothing, this guy had his work adapted into adult video.”
“Since it’s original, that’s great. It’s admirable.”
“If he had made this money from fan works of famous series, I’d be furious.”
“I didn’t find it very exciting. A convenient gyaru comes into an otaku’s room, reads manga, and does adult things, but in the end loses to the otaku guy. It’s so dumb it’s discouraging, but apparently that’s what people want.”
“Gyaru are every man’s dream.”
“One of the few fully original success stories.”
“People get inspired by this and start training to become adult manga artists, but quickly give up. I wonder how long you actually need to train…”
“In ten years, he’ll probably have sold everything and be living in a tiny rented apartment, right?”
It seems many people reacted with envy.
