Japanese Fans Frustrated with Chainsaw Man’s Unanswered Ending

Chainsaw Man ended yesterday and there was no announcement of a “Part 3” as some expected, and the series wrapped up in a “world reset” style. This left a large portion of readers irritated, as the author simply did not answer ANY of the story’s mysteries.

And Japanese fans are also upset about it. A tweet that reached over 5 million views complains exactly about this:

“In the end, what the hell was Chainsaw Man really…? Who caused the injuries Pochita had at the beginning…? Why is only Pochita able to erase devils…? What exactly were the ‘subordinates’…? What was that chainsaw sound heard in hell…? How many primal fear devils are there…? What devil did Kobeni make a contract with…?”

It seems that even a large portion of Japanese fans expected the manga to answer several questions, but we ended up with a series that simply answered nothing.

Below are more reactions:

  • Seriously, that’s exactly it. People who respond with “there’s a theory that…” or “it was kind of shown (but never explored in depth)” are missing the point. We wanted clear answers from the author.
  • I don’t think everything needs to be explained, but after so many hints meant to spark theories, at least as fanservice they could have clarified things surrounding the protagonist…
  • Yeah, those parts really leave you feeling empty… Will we get a short special chapter?
  • Obviously it’s because it looks cool to slice enemies with a chainsaw head. You guys are asking for boring answers.
  • Too many people assume everything is foreshadowing and that everything needs to be explained to feel satisfied.
If they wanted, they could have made a controversial ending just to stir things up. I had expectations for Chainsaw Man and
  • Fujimoto, but it feels like even that motivation wasn’t there — it was a very generic ending suggesting a happy parallel future.
  • Kobeni’s felt like something they would “figure out later if needed.” But it was never needed.
  • Why was Chainsaw the most feared on Earth (or something like that)?
  • Logically, it should be the Death Devil. So why was only
  • Chainsaw able to erase devils? They didn’t even explain that from the title… (crying) So frustrating.
  • There are way too many unanswered things.
    Wait? Doesn’t Kobeni’s devil appear soon? I’m anime-only so I really don’t know anything.

  • Some people say they were satisfied anyway, so whatever! Let’s just forget it!
  • Could it have been the “Secret Devil”?
  • Can the anime even continue like this? The assassin arc is going to be tough… it already starts at a disadvantage.
  • Core elements of the story were never explained, Asa’s dream about the chicken wasn’t either, several hybrids reappeared but
  • Reze didn’t, there wasn’t even an attempt to look for Power in hell… It feels like chapters were forced just to generate hype during the anime/movie period.
  • I’d rather he just focused on short stories now. Long series aren’t his strength.
  • Are mangaka good at creating mysteries but bad at concluding them? Or are there just very few who can do both well?
  • When I said something similar about Tokyo Revengers, I was called a hater and I still can’t accept that.
  • I thought Pochita’s injuries at the beginning were the result of a fight with the four sisters… maybe not?
