Black Lagoon Author Says He Owns Most of the Series’ Adult Doujinshi

When an author turns out to be just like the fans, it’s kind of amazing, right?
Did you know that Rei Hiroe, the creator of Black Lagoon, has purchased most of the adult doujinshi based on his own series?
Yes — the original author himself.
How did this come to light?
The story started a few years ago when a fan posted on Twitter asking:
“Are there many ero doujinshi of Black Lagoon?”

As most anime and manga fans know, it’s very common for artists to create adult-themed doujinshi based on popular series. And yes, Black Lagoon does have some adult doujin out there.
The surprising part came when Rei Hiroe himself replied.
He said:
“There aren’t many, but there are some. I have most of them.”

That’s right — the creator of Black Lagoon actually bought the adult doujinshi made about his own work.
In a later tweet, he also mentioned that he reads all kinds of doujinshi, not just adult ones. What made the situation even better was how openly he interacted with fans in that thread, answering questions and joking around.

It’s always interesting when creators show that they’re fully aware of fan culture — and even participate in it.
And it gets even better…
Rei Hiroe hasn’t just consumed doujinshi — he’s also created them.
For example, he made an adult doujin featuring Sinon from Sword Art Online. That’s right — the Black Lagoon author has contributed to the doujin scene himself.

Moments like these remind us how closely connected professional creators and fan communities can be in Japan’s manga industry.
Black Lagoon Synopsis
Black Lagoon follows Rokuro Okajima, a typical Japanese businessman living a routine corporate life. Everything changes when he is sent to Southeast Asia to deliver a disk containing highly confidential information.
Upon arrival, he is kidnapped by modern-day pirates operating from a ship called the Black Lagoon. Expecting his company to pay his ransom, Rokuro instead discovers that they send mercenaries to recover the disk — and eliminate him to keep him silent.
After barely surviving, he realizes he has nothing left to return to. Abandoning his old identity, he chooses to stay with the Black Lagoon crew and start a new life in the criminal underworld.
