Kodansha Demands Personal Info of Fans Behind Alternative Ending of Attack on Titan

Kodansha went all in against those responsible for the fan animation Requiem, which aimed to be an alternative ending of Attack on Titan. As you probably know, many fans weren’t happy with the original ending of Attack on Titan. Some time ago, a group of fans decided to create an animation offering a different conclusion for the series.
The group, known as Studio Eclypse, even released a video on YouTube, but it was taken down. Things have now become more serious, as Kodansha is demanding the personal data of those behind the alternative ending of Attack on Titan.

In July of this year, the official Studio Eclypse Twitter account announced that the trailer for Attack on Titan Requiem was no longer available on YouTube.
At the time, they stated they “respect the publisher’s wishes” but found it “very disappointing that in this era, a small group of fans is prevented from freely sharing projects with the community.”

Two months after YouTube removed the fan-made alternative ending, Kodansha now wants to uncover the identities of Studio Eclypse’s members. They issued a legal notice demanding:
Phone numbers
Emails
Payment information
IP addresses
…of everyone behind Studio Eclypse. Kodansha also tried to remove the group’s Twitter posts but was unsuccessful. Additionally, Squarespace — the hosting platform of Studio Eclypse’s website — also received a notice from Kodansha asking for any data they might have about the studio’s owners.

Twitter reactions have been mixed: some celebrated, saying producing an alternative ending was absurd, while others criticized the group for trying to profit from the project via Patreon, since Attack on Titan’s IP belongs to Kodansha.
One user went further, calling Studio Eclypse scammers and harassers who monetized a work they had no rights to, adding that they deserve the backlash.
Other fan projects also faced cancellation, such as the fan-made Berserk animation.
