Mangaka Okamoto Lynn Shares Stories About Strange Editors

Okamoto Lynn is best known for being the author of Elfen Lied, but he has also created several other popular series. Probably due to all the controversy involving Kodansha and its editors, as the author of Cells at Work! decided to talk about what motivated her to share her experiences, causing other mangaka to also share their stories about problematic editors, Okamoto also wanted to talk about some situations he experienced with his editors.
However, in his case, the situations are much stranger than cases of abuse.
On his Twitter, Okamoto Lynn shared some situations he experienced with eccentric editors during his more than 20 years as a mangaka:

“During my more than 20 years working as a mangaka, I have met many strange editors, but I have never had the misfortune of encountering a bad editor.
When I say ‘strange editors,’ I am talking about people like an editor who slept completely naked with all the lights in the room turned on, even though he was sharing the same hotel room with me during a research trip, or someone who, even in the middle of a torrential downpour, showed up completely soaked at the agreed meeting place saying: ‘I have a principle of not using an umbrella.'”
Okay… these two cases he mentioned are really curious: an editor who only sleeps naked with the lights on, even while sharing the same room with other people, and another editor who, no matter how much it rains, simply does not use an umbrella?
Let’s see how people reacted:
- “That person really is strange lol”
- “I am a nudist, and if the lights aren’t on, I end up oversleeping and missing the time.”
- “I became curious about these strange editors.”
- “Wouldn’t his very existence be harassment?”
- “Isn’t there someone there who is problematic both legally and ethically…?”
- “The second case sounds like me.”
- “The first case changes depending on whether the editor is a man or a woman.”
- “Even if they are weird editors, as long as they keep their word and do their job properly without causing problems, it’s fine.”
Interesting. I just wish he had shared more experiences.
