Fantia Tightens Censorship on Adult Content With New Requirements

Fantia, the Japanese platform, has tightened censorship on adult content after announcing new guidelines for mosaics and blurring in +18 works. The changes will take effect on May 25 and even affect older content published by creators on the platform.
Fantia Tightens Censorship on Adult Content With New Requirements
Fantia, the Japanese creator support platform operated by Toranoana, revealed that it will apply much stricter rules for censorship in adult content. According to the official statement, the decision was made after criticism and pressure from different organizations related to Japanese laws.
Under the new rules, mosaics, blurs, and solid censorship will need to completely hide the details of explicit content. Transparent effects, light blurring, or censorship that still allows partial visibility of the content will be considered inadequate.

In addition, the platform stated that the review system will become more rigorous and that videos will need even stronger censorship than still images, since movement can end up revealing parts of the content during playback.
Changes Also Affect Older Content
What worried users the most was the fact that the new policies will apply retroactively. This means that content published years ago may also be reviewed by Fantia.
Creators who fail to adapt their works may receive requests to correct or even delete publications considered problematic. In cases of repeated violations, accounts may be suspended or removed from the platform.

According to Fantia, the goal is to prevent creators from being unintentionally exposed to legal risks, citing recent cases of punishments related to censorship considered insufficient in Japan.
In addition, Fantia threatened creators, saying it will call the police on those who do not properly censor their works!
Creators Fear Massive Impact on the Platform
The news generated strong concern among Japanese artists and users. Since Fantia has existed since 2016, many creators have hundreds or even thousands of old contents that may now need to be manually reviewed.
Many users also expressed fear that other Japanese adult content platforms may follow the same path in the future, increasing restrictions even more for artists, illustrators, cosplayers, and adult video producers in Japan.
Currently, Fantia works similarly to Patreon, allowing creators to publish exclusive content through monthly subscriptions, with support for commissions, product sales, and different access tiers for fans.
