Photos are circulating on social media of a “fan” of voice actress Tomori Kusunoki setting fire to his Setsuna plush (from the series Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club), after Tomori announced on New Year’s that she had gotten married to an ordinary person who is not part of the entertainment industry.

The description of the post says:

“The incident that occurred when a hardcore otaku of Yū◯ Setsuna went berserk after hearing the marriage announcement of Kusuno◯ Tomori. Apparently, this person genuinely believed in and loved the character ◯ki Setsuna, created by ◯ki Tomori…”

Below, you can see the photos.

There is also a video below showing him burning the figure.

It is worth noting that Tomori Kusunoki also voices Makima in Chainsaw Man, but this person is a fan of her other role, the idol Setsuna from Love Live.

What confuses me, however, is that after posting the photos and the video of him burning the plush, he later went back to posting normal photos with other Setsuna plushies. This makes me wonder whether he did it just to create a scene and go viral.

Either way, there have been other cases of people complaining about voice actresses getting married. Check out some of these comments:

“I really hate the rotten mindset of voice actresses who hide the fact that they have a boyfriend because they know it would cause problems if it got out, but once they get married they think everything is forgiven, announce it publicly, and want to be congratulated. Having a boyfriend or getting married is an individual freedom, of course, but if your job is to sell dreams and feed off socially weak men, then hide it and take it to the grave.”

“There’s no phrase more infuriating than idiots pretending to be normal saying ‘if you’re a fan, you should be happy for her.’”

“I honestly agree with this. When an idol voice actress has a boyfriend or gets married, it should be criticized. Otaku should create an atmosphere where idol voice actresses are not allowed to have boyfriends. Just as much as I criticize idol voice actresses with boyfriends, I also criticize those creepy otaku who say things like ‘my oshi’s happiness is my happiness.’”

Japanese voice actresses usually wait until the New Year period to announce their marriages; it has become a tradition. When the year turns, expect to see a voice actress reveal that she is married. It seems that many people see them as their girlfriends and are not happy about it.
