Dragon Quest 7 Remake Censored Aishe

Last Friday, during the Nintendo Direct, a remake of the game Dragon Quest 7 was announced, officially titled Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined. However, Japanese fans quickly noticed that Aishe, one of the characters who joins your party, was censored.

Dragon Quest 7 was originally released for the PlayStation 1 in 2000 and is said to be the longest and one of the darkest games in the series. Among the characters who join your party is Aishe, who wears a very revealing outfit.

In 2013, Dragon Quest 7 received a remake for the Nintendo 3DS, which made several changes to the game, since the original PS1 version is considered “hard to play” and very long.

Aishe in the 3DS version kept the same look:

However, in the new remake, they decided to cover the character more. Check out her new model:

It’s worth noting that all the other party members were left unchanged for the remake—only Aishe was censored.

Fans of the series didn’t like this censorship of Aishe.

  • “When most characters in a remaster/remake are respected except for a female character, it’s disturbing.”
  • “You know, I wish the person who decided on the censorship would at least tell us why. I’m not interested in speculation—I want to hear it from the source.”
  • “Boycott Square Enix.”
  • “Dragon Quest is so obsessed with being for all ages that they should just drop the brand already.”

Fans recalled a 2024 interview in which it was said that the United States “has an almost religious concept of sex education,” and that because of this you can no longer freely choose between male and female characters.

The interview concluded by saying that “doing business with such a ridiculous country is exhausting,” and that Japan is negatively influenced as a result. You can read more details about that here.
