Holographic Police Officer in South Korea Reduces Crime in Seoul Parks

I know we’re in the “Japan” category, but this time South Korea did something that definitely deserves a post here! South Korea has once again surprised the world by investing in public safety technology. A holographic police officer in South Korea was installed in a park in Seoul, and it is already showing positive results in reducing crime.
How Does the Holographic Police Officer Work in Seoul?
The project was launched by the Jungbu Police Station as part of the “Creating Safe Parks in Jungbu” initiative. Its main goal is to increase the sense of security in areas with high rates of violent behavior and alcohol-related disturbances.

The life-size hologram delivers pre-recorded messages reminding visitors that the park is under CCTV surveillance and that the police are ready to respond in real time. The system operates automatically every day from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Results Already Observed
According to local police data, the installation of the holographic police officer in South Korea helped reduce crime in the area by around 22% between October 2024 and May 2025, compared to the same period before its implementation.
Beyond reducing crime rates, the hologram also has a psychological effect: it creates a sense of safety among citizens and serves as a deterrent for potential offenders.
The hologram was developed in collaboration between a specialized 3D technology company and the Jung District Office, with infrastructure support from related agencies.

According to Ahn Dong-hyun, chief of the Jungbu Police Station, this tool represents a new model of smart policing. The plan is to expand the use of this technology and other AI-based solutions to create safer and more welcoming public spaces across the city.
And who knows? In the future, the same technology could even bring Waifus closer to otakus! Many already imagine the possibilities as technology keeps advancing.
